Sean C Hurst is Senior Pastor at Connecting Point Ministries. He and his wife Erika have 5 wonderful children they homeschool together.
At the age of 22, Sean gave his life to Christ Jesus while reading John Bunyan The Tinker Of Bedford by Willian S. Deal. “I had been in Church most of my life in the Anglican tradition”, says Sean, “then I started attending an independent Baptist Church around the age of 22 where I heard the Gospel being preached nearly every service. I had assumed I was saved for all the wrong reasons. It was not until I read how John Bunyan came to faith that something clicked and I realized my need for salvation.” Shortly after this, Sean dedicated his life to the Gospel Ministry. He studied for 2 years at his home church, Bethel Baptist, under his senior pastor, Anthony Price, in theology, homiletics, church doctrines, and worked in multiple ministries in the church. “looking back, this mentorship meant the world to me.” says Sean. “I learned so much in this time. It not only prepared me for ministry but was a valuable source for learning theology.”
In August 1999 – December 2001, Sean attended Trinity Baptist Bible College. He also severed on staff at Trinity as the research assistant to Pastor Tom Messer and worked in several ministries as a volunteer, and later, as a paid intern, including translating for the Deaf Ministry Pastor John Olson during staff meetings which helped to form a life long friendship. Sean also had the opportunity to do evangelistic work in the form of preaching while a guest in Japan visiting his wife Erika’s home Church.
On September 11, 2001, Sean’s life changed as God called him to serve in the U.S. Army. After hundreds of combat missions, Sean was medically retired for injures sustained in combat.
2006 – 2007, Sean returned to Trinity to help start the Revolution Martial Arts Outreach program as the director. “This was an awesome job allowing me to teach college students how to really get involved with people and build relationships as well as do ministry with them side by side.” 2007 – 2009, Sean served as associate pastor, children’s pastor, adult SS teacher, bus director, preaching as a Chaplin for the christian academy, 3-7 grade teacher (1 semester) substitute teacher for high school at Bethel Baptist Church and SCCA.
2013 – Present, in addition to running his own martial arts ministry, Sean fills in as an interim pastor to local churches while they are looking for candidates.
Sensing a need for education for christians in the form of apologetics and theology, Sean and Erika quickly realized that since their time in college, the topics relating to Christianity have changed quite dramatically. Sean is now working on his graduate studies in philosophical theology, and helping his family to operate Connecting Point Online Ministries.
